All your questions answered.

The biggest question of all is:
What is SHR laser hair removal?

SHR, short for Super Hair Removal, is a treatment that is designed to get rid of up to 90% of unwanted hair in a comfortable, quick and painless way with long-term results. After a treatment, there is practically no downtime – no matter what skin or hair type you are. Even sensitive zones can be comfortably treated!

The hair follicle is destroyed by a repeating low energy, the laser light impulses. The light impulses are constantly in movement, which reduces the risk on potential burns or pain to an absolute minimum. The experience is described as a hot stone massage, thanks to the cooling tip of the laser and the use of cooling gel.

DOET IT HURT?

The SHR laser is painless. However, you could be more sensitive if you’ve shaved too close to the treatment. That’s why we ask you to shave 24 hours (a day) before the treatment and not on the day itself. The only sensation you’ll have, is the warmth of the laser that is often described as a hot stone massage.

HOW LONG WILL THE HAIRS STAY AWAY?

The hairs that have been treated with the SHR laser will stay away, permanently. However, hair growth is heavily influenced by genetics and hormones. If anything changes in your hormone balance, like a pregnancy, it’s possible that non-active hairs become active.

Our main goal with the laser treatment is to permanently destroy the hair follicles of the active hairs so they do not longer produce hair and o activate the non-active hairs so they can also be treated. You can laser up to 90% of the hair away. It’s possible that 10% remains but those are not necessarily the original hairs, meaning these could evolve in very light and weak hairs.

CAN I GO IN THE SUN BEFORE OR AFTER A TREATMENT?

A slightly tanned skin can get treated without issue. However, make sure you’re not sunburnt right before the treatment, as you cannot laser on damaged skin. The ideal situation is skin that is free of products and non-irritated. After a SHR laser treatment you don’t have any downtime, but we do recommend to avoid intense sun exposure two weeks before or after the treatment. If you go on a sun vacation, we recommend using a high SPF.

I HAVE VERY LIGHT OR GREY HAIRS. DOES SHR WORK ON ME?

Blonde hair can be treated. However, your hair must still have some pigment left for the laser to work. White or grey hairs are missing the necessary pigmentation, so unfortunately these cannot be treated anymore.

CAN I ALSO WAX, BLEACH OR EPILATE AT THE SAME TIME?

No. You are to refrain from waxing, bleaching or epilating the hairs that are being treated with the SHR laser. It’s possible you damage the hair pigment or hair follicles which will result in ineffective results since the laser needs these to work.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?

Every person, skin and hair growth is different so it will depend mainly on genetics and hormones how many treatments will be necessary to lose up until 90% of the hairs. In normal conditions this will vary from 10 to 12 treatments, but it can go up to 15 treatments. Multiple factors like waxing history, previous laser treatments, how much hair is present etc. will influence the amount of treatments needed.

CAN ANYONE BE LASERED?

A SHR laser treatment is discouraged if you:

  • are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • have epilepsy
  • have very dark skin with no difference between skin and hair
  • have a high fever or infection
  • use medication that influences your light sensitivity
  • use antibiotics
  • have a pacemaker
  • have permanent piercings, tattoos or implants in the specific zone you’d like to get treated

If you are currently taking any medication or are unsure about the above, please consult with your doctor first.
