In short, SHR (which stands for Super Hair Removal) is a laser treatment that is designed to get rid of unwanted hair up to 90% in a comfortable, quick and painless way with long-term results.

But before we explain how SHR works, we’d like to shine a light on IPL, so you can recognise the differences between IPL and SHR:

IPL (Intense Pulse Light) is a very selective treatment that heats up the hair follicle between 65 to 75° Celsius. The light impulse that the machine produces goes through the hair to the hair follicle. This energy, guided by the pigmentation of the hair, is absorbed and converted to warmth. Because IPL warms up the follicle until 65 to 75° Celcius, you will definitely feel this. Most of the time, people describe it as a stinging feeling or like an elastic that is snapping on their skin – a rather unpleasant experience, especially if you would be treating a large area of skin like legs or a sensitive area.

IPL is a time intensive treatment where you can’t have any sun exposure – hence why IPL is mostly done in winter.

SHR laser hair removal, the gentle sister

SHR is also a selective laser treatment, but here a gliding technique is used. The light impulse also travels to the hair follicle, guided by the pigmentation of the hair. The energy is converted to warmth, that will eventually destroy the hair follicle. Once destroyed, it won’t be able to produce any more hairs – and that’s exactly our main goal!

The energy of the SHR laser is lower, since it’s only converted to 45° Celcius and is distributed more by the highly repeated frequency. The tip of the laser is also cooled down to -5° Celcius and we use a cooling gel. In this way, you won’t experience any of the unpleasant sensations that you might have with IPL. The SHR laser does not hurt and it’s far less time consuming, making sure you can spend your precious time on something else.

The SHR laser hair removal is a comfortable and relaxed experience – even for sensitive zones. And more importantly, don’t worry about sun exposure: with SHR, you can get treated year-round, in every season.
